Enviromentally friendly process for aluminium brightening

Introduction
Chemical and electrochemical processes are the two ways of obtaining bright aluminium. Both have great impact on the environment (NOx in the air for chemical and chrome in the water for electrochemical brightening).

Alubrill
On behalf of Brembo Spa, a company active in the automotive business, Aluservice was asked to develop a product which could solve environmental issues without prejudicing the quality of the finish. It took us about a year to develop Alubrill which is a phosphoric, sulphuric solution with an organic additive, which causes no dangerous fumes and has no effect on water treatment. Over the last two years we have been successful in changing traditional electropolishing products to our process, reaching high quality standards with no impact on the environment.

Working conditions
Alubrill works exactly like traditional chromium-based products. The tank is usually made of PP or PVDF with led cathodes, the working temperature is between 60° - 70° and current density is approximately 10A/dm2. The movement of the bar is necessary to remove gas from the surface which could stain the aluminium. Average immersion time very much depends on the material we are treating but 5' is the time which should be considered.
